Innovation & Entrepreneurship Basics

This module introduces students to the basics of entrepreneurship - from theoretical concepts and the role of start-ups in the context of innovation to understanding entrepreneurial ecosystems. Students go through the entire process from brainstorming to the development of a viable business model, supported by the design thinking method.
Using self-developed or scientific problems, they design business models, validate them and gain valuable practical experience in entrepreneurship. Special emphasis is placed on the development of market strategies, marketing and financing plans as well as the preparation of a convincing final pitch.
This course offers practical insights into entrepreneurship and the opportunity to try out your own business ideas - ideal for anyone who wants to learn entrepreneurial thinking and acquire basic skills for future business projects.
- Gain a basic understanding of entrepreneurship.

  • Apply methods for validating business models (e.g. Business Model Canvas, Lean Startup).

  • Gain familiarity with design thinking processes and methods

  • Conduct market analyses and incorporate customer feedback.

  • Analyze success factors of business models.

  • Develop and test prototypes.

  • Develop pitching and presentation skills.

The module serves as the foundational element for subsequent modules within the Entrepreneurial Skills Certificate (Entrepreneurial Skills Program).
To receive ECTS points, students are required to maintain a minimum attendance rate of 80%, participate in a final presentation, and thoroughly document their learning experiences in a learning diary.
This module is highly recommended for students pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree, as well as postdoctoral researchers.
